International health insurance for families abroad

If you are moving abroad with your family or travelling for an extended period of time, you want to ensure that everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, is fully covered.
International health insurance brokered by ASN offers your family Swiss-quality protection that is valid worldwide.
Why should my family take out international health insurance for long-term stays abroad?
When moving to another country or travelling for at least a year, sooner or later the question of having the right health insurance arises – and above all the question is: “Should we take out local insurance or an international solution?”
The problem is that local insurance policies often only offer limited cover and are usually only valid in the country in question. This is not sufficient, especially if you have special needs, travel frequently or want to undergo certain treatments in your home country.
In addition, local solutions do not offer Swiss-quality protection: the healthcare system in the destination country may be inadequate and important services may be lacking. It may also be the case that you do not qualify take out insurance locally (e.g. due to your age, pre-existing conditions or an upcoming pregnancy). Language barriers are also often a challenge during an emergency.
The international health insurance solutions provided by ASN offer your family optimal Swiss-quality protection – regionally or worldwide, but in the Swiss national languages or English.

We need to make a claim on our insurance abroad. How does the process work?
There are usually two options:
1. Direct Billing
With direct billing, you do not have to pay for the treatment yourself. You can seek treatment at one of your insurer’s partner institutions or have a prescription filled there. You show your digital insurance card or insurance certificate, and the medical institution bills the insurance company directly.
This means you do not have to pay upfront and there is no additional administrative work for you. This also applies if you need a guarantee of payment (GoP) for more expensive treatment or medication. We at ASN are here for you if you have any questions or need assistance.
2. Advance payment with reimbursement (“pay & claim”)
If you visit a doctor’s surgery, clinic or pharmacy outside the insurer’s network, you pay the bill yourself first. You then submit the documents to the insurer and receive a refund for the costs of the covered services.
The easiest way to do this is through us: you send us the bill and other documents – we check everything, prepare it correctly and use our priority status with many insurers. This ensures that you submit the correct documents and receive your reimbursement more quickly and smoothly. We are also happy to help if you need a guarantee of payment (GoP).
